"Obesity" is an unhealthy excess of body weight and fat.
Obesity is becoming an epidemic of modern day life. In Australia today, nearly 60% of adults are overweight or obese, and 4 - 6% suffer morbid obesity. More and more of our children are becoming obese.
The various causes of obesity are inter-related. They include:

- Underlying physiology - e.g., body type, shape, metabolism
- Environmental factors - e.g., inactive lifestyle, eating too much
- A measure of obesity is the Body Mass Index or (BMI).
