Surgical procedures
Weight control surgical operations have been developed and refined over the last thirty years. There are now clearly defined procedures that are professionally recognised, with documented follow-up results.
Surgical treatments are categorised as:
- "Restrictive" - which restricts the amount of food which can be eaten
- "Malabsorptive" - which bypasses sections of the small intestine so that food eaten is poorly absorbed
- Combination of above.
However, they are not cosmetic procedures and do not involve removing fat tissue by suction or excision.
