Professor Jeff Hamdorf, MBBS, PhD., FRACS
General & Bariatric Surgeon
Professor Hamdorf undertook his undergraduate degree through UWA and then, after completing a Ph.D. at UWA, he trained in surgery After graduating from the surgical training program he spent two years at the University of New South Wales as a Visiting Academic and at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney doing post fellowship training in upper gastrointestinal surgery and developed clinical interests in laparoscopic surgery and upper gastrointestinal malignancies. In the last several years his clinical interests have extended to the multi disciplinary approach to weight control. He is considered an expert in laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal surgery particularly pertinent to adjustable gastric banding. His academic interests have focused on education and he has landmark publications in surgical education and skills acquisition. Professor Hamdorf’s other areas of professional interest have included the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and he is a former member of the Board of Basic Surgical Training and chaired the Basic Surgical Skills group which introduced mandatory skills training for all surgical trainees in Australasia. He has been the Chair of the State Committee of the RACS and convened the College’s Annual Scientific Congress in Perth in 2005. He also Chairs the West Australian Trauma Education Committee and is one of the clinical leaders of the Trauma and Injury Health Network which directs multi-professional educational activity in trauma management for health care professionals in Western Australia.
Dr. Sue Taylor, MBBS, FRACS.
General & Bariatric Surgeon
Sue Taylor is a consultant surgeon and Senior Lecturer in Surgery at Osborne Park Hospital. She was the first Bariatric Fellow at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in 2004 and since that time has been involved in setting up several multidisciplinary clinics in weight control surgery in Perth including the Circle of Care Perth at St. John of God Hospital in Subiaco with Professor Jeff Hamdorf. Sue has worked and operated with Professor Hamdorf for four years and has independently performed 250 laparoscopic gastric banding procedures.
Mr Jeremy Tan, MBBS FRACS.
Consultant General & Laparoscopic Surgeon
Jeremy Tan is a Consultant General Surgeon on the upper gastro-intestinal and bariatric surgery unit at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth. He also consults and operates at the St John of God Hospital Subiaco. He completed his medical degree at the University of Western Australia and did his general surgical training in Perth and Adelaide. He completed a bariatric surgical fellowship in Perth prior to commencing consultant practice. He works closely with Professor Jeff Hamdorf and Dr Sue Taylor and offers bariatric surgery in both the public and private hospital settings.
