Dr. James Read, MBBS, DRANZCOG, FRACGP
Specialist general practitioner
Dr. James Read is a holistic general practitioner with a focus on nutritional medicine. He is a member of the Australian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, The Australian Integrated Medical Association, a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and has Graduate Diplomas in Rural General Practice and a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is also a qualified GP Anaesthetist. Many people with obesity have underlying biochemical, hormonal, metabolic and neurotransmitter imbalances that contribute to both their weight gain and tendencies to crave and overeat certain types of foods. Dr. Read works with our patients to identify these underlying factors and create a nutritional program to manage them. He will also identify underlying deficiencies and imbalances of vitamins, minerals, neurotransmitters and digestion which are common in obese patients as they both contribute to weight gain and are the result of a poorly balanced diet. It is particularly important post gastric banding to correct these imbalances.
Jenne Turner, BBus(HRM), BA(Psych), Grad.Dip(Psych), MA(Human Services), Assoc. MAPS
Psychologist and Coach
Jenne Turner is the psychologist member of our team. She believes the process of losing and maintaining weight loss requires two additional key components - change in lifestyle and change in thought/behaviour patterns. Because this decision affects your whole life, it is important to pause and reflect upon the impact this will have - physically, emotionally and socially. Food has played an important role in your life, however you are allocating it a new role, which will require new habits and new coping strategies. The lap band is not a miracle cure for life, and a lot of life's troubles will be there when you are slimmer. We look at how you are handling life's issues and seek to develop ways to make your new life more satisfying and fulfilling.
